Estudis comparatius\u00bb, la Societat Catalana d\u2019Estudis Numism\u00e0tics present\u00e0 l\u2019exposici\u00f3 <strong><em>El segell a la medalla. Fou el primer estudi\u00f3s que sistematitz\u00e0 els nostres segells medievals i de fer-ho en catal\u00e0, com queda de manifest en la seva obra mestra, <em>Sigil\u00b7lografia catalana: inventari, descripci\u00f3 i estudi dels segells de Catalunya<\/em> (1915-1922-1932), de cinc volums, que guany\u00e0 el Premi Martorell i el Premi Raoul Duseigneur de l\u2019Institut de France.<\/p>\n<p>Durant les seves recerques, reun\u00ed una nombrosa documentaci\u00f3 i un important conjunt d\u2019empremtes que ell mateix obtenia dels segells que estudiava i que reprodu\u00ed en els seus treballs. Aquests materials han estat preservats, la majoria, a la Biblioteca de Catalunya i a l\u2019Arxiu Hist\u00f2ric de la Ciutat de Barcelona, i inclouen des de la seva documentaci\u00f3 personal (cartes i manuscrits) fins a m\u00e9s de cinc mil empremtes (majorit\u00e0riament de segells i d\u2019unes cinc-centes monedes).<\/p>\n<p>Ferran de Sagarra tamb\u00e9 exerc\u00ed la pol\u00edtica. Fou regidor de l\u2019Ajuntament de Barcelona (1906-1909) i diputat de la Mancomunitat de Catalunya (1923). El 1920 ingress\u00e0 a l\u2019Institut d\u2019Estudis Catalans (Secci\u00f3 Hist\u00f2rico-Arqueol\u00f2gica) i del 1930 al 1932 presidi l\u2019Ateneu Barcelon\u00e8s, a m\u00e9s de ser membre de l\u2019Acad\u00e8mia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona, de la Societat Arqueol\u00f2gica Tarraconense i de l\u2019Academia de la Historia de Madrid. De fet, moltes inc\u00f2gnites que s\u2019han plantejat a la numism\u00e0tica s\u2019han resolt gr\u00e0cies a la sigil\u00b7lografia.<\/p>\n<p>Aix\u00ed, monedes i segells, almenys als temps medievals, solien ser fets pels mateixos artistes, amb uns procediments forca similars i amb manlleus tipol\u00f2gics entre uns i altres, fet que ha perm\u00e8s, per comparaci\u00f3, resoldre atribucions, identificar llinatges, determinar la cronologia de les peces o documentar la moneda municipal o l\u2019eclesi\u00e0stica de diferents parr\u00f2quies.<\/p>\n<p>Segells i monedes eren emanacions del poder, generalment del sobir\u00e0 per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 d\u2019altres c\u00e0rrecs importants, com els eclesi\u00e0stics o els senyors feudals; per aix\u00f2 ambd\u00f3s solen presentar elements al\u00b7lusius a l\u2019autoritat o a la legitimitat. Estava feta d\u2019un material r\u00edgid perqu\u00e8, en pr\u00e9mer-la sobre una mat\u00e8ria blana (com la cera o el lacre), hi origin\u00e9s el segell. Aquest, a m\u00e9s de ser un objecte art\u00edstic, era sobretot part integrant del document (acta, carta, decret, tractat, ordre&#8230;) al qual estava adherit, donava validesa legal i produ\u00efa l\u2019efecte de tipus jur\u00eddic-administratiu. El segell acostumava a estar aposat o penjat del document (escrit generalment amb tinta sobre pergam\u00ed) i s\u2019hi subjectava per la fixaci\u00f3 del propi material o per un fil, cinta o cord\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Existeix, per tant, una relaci\u00f3 intima entre document i segell, de manera que, encara que num\u00e8ricament siguin dos objectes diferents amb funcions i caracter\u00edstiques pr\u00f2pies, en unir-se constitueixen una unitat. Document i segell es necessiten i es complementen pel que fa a valor i significat jur\u00eddic del conjunt, de manera que, en separar-se, tots dos perden part de la seva comesa, passant, des d\u2019aquest moment, a ser nom\u00e9s monuments o records hist\u00f2rics.<\/p>\n<p>Amb el pas del temps, el segell medieval evolucion\u00e0 cap a altres formes, primer als segells reials fets amb tinta i paper segellat, i despr\u00e9s, ja entrat el segle XIX, als realitzats amb t\u00e8cniques d\u2019impressi\u00f3 mecanitzades per al franqueig postal. En paral\u00b7lel i fins entrat el segle XX, es bastiren les anomenades \u00abconstruccions modernes\u00bb, tot un seguit d\u2019edificis de nova planta basats en els principis del g\u00f2tic o en les seves solucions decoratives. Aquell afany va ser compartit per altres arts, com la pintura, la joieria o la medall\u00edstica.<\/p>\n<p>Poc despr\u00e9s, el 1867, l\u2019escultor i gravador Hubert Ponscarme execut\u00e0 la medalla <em>Joseph Naudet<\/em>, que supos\u00e0 una ruptura amb la tradici\u00f3 medall\u00edstica en introduir-hi tres grans innovacions: elimin\u00e0 el llistell, matis\u00e0 el fons per assuavir la transici\u00f3 amb el retrat i adopt\u00e0 una tipografia adequada al tema.<\/p>\n<p>En aquell context es desenvolupa la medalla neog\u00f2tica, que neix com un tema d\u2019estil en conson\u00e0ncia amb l\u2019historicisme que pregonava una revisi\u00f3 del passat i en coincid\u00e8ncia amb el perfeccionament del torn reductor, una innovaci\u00f3 t\u00e8cnica que popularitza la medalla. El seu enginy redueix el medall\u00f3 o model de la medalla que l\u2019artista ha obrat en una mida gran a una de petita, la de la medalla final, segons el principi del pant\u00f2graf. El resultat empetitit queda gravat en una matriu a partir de la qual es poden encunyar medalles, mecanitzant un proc\u00e9s que abarateix despeses i augmenta la producci\u00f3. D\u2019aleshores en\u00e7\u00e0, qualsevol escultor sense formaci\u00f3 en gravat de medalles podr\u00e0 modelar un medall\u00f3 i obtenir-ne la medalla, on hi plasma el seu propi car\u00e0cter i que, en el cas dels nostres artistes, sovint inclouen les llegendes en catal\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019inter\u00e8s pel m\u00f3n medieval perdura en el modernisme i es mant\u00e9 en el noucentisme fins a quedar despla\u00e7at, com altres estils hist\u00f2rics, en arribar el moviment modern. El neog\u00f2tic subsisteix en les medalles devocionals, que mantenen la forma ogival, la tipografia i les representacions figuratives de l\u2019edat mitjana. De fet, el naixement de la medalla al segle XV t\u00e9 a veure amb la crisi de la imatge emblem\u00e0tica o simb\u00f2lica de l\u2019individu a finals de l\u2019edat mitjana, alhora que el desenvolupament del retrat \u00e9s conseq\u00fcent al culte a la personalitat propi de l\u2019humanisme.<\/p>\n<p>Hi ha un fet remarcable entre segells i medalles. De la mateixa manera que el segell identifica el seu propietari, la medalla commemorativa tamb\u00e9 es refereix a la persona celebrada, aix\u00ed que resulten dos objectes de petit format, de dimensions semblants, fets amb voluntat duradora i que contenen en relleu un missatge inequ\u00edvoc i personalitzat.<\/p>\n<p>Les primeres medalles que reprodueixen segells daten del darrer ter\u00e7 del segle XIX, coincidint amb la consagraci\u00f3 t\u00e8cnica del torn reductor i amb un inter\u00e8s creixent pels segells entre els historiadors. Aleshores, la medalla viu una eclosi\u00f3 que la fa permeable a tot tipus de temes i tant particulars com institucions fan reproduir segells.<\/p>\n<p>Avui, les medalles que representen segells s\u00f3n utilitzades com a referencia a persones, institucions o localitats relacionades amb els segells, i majorit\u00e0riament es destinen a esdeveniments, celebracions i actes institucionals o protocol\u00b7laris. Aqu\u00ed es presenten sis exemples del tractament dels segells a les medalles: les que reprodueixen amb exactitud el segell, les que s\u2019inspiren en segells amb un resultat aproximat, les que reprodueixen la forma del segell (l\u2019ogival o l\u2019empremta sobre la cera), les que presenten el segell com una part m\u00e9s de la pe\u00e7a sense guardar una proporci\u00f3 amb la resta d\u2019elements representats, les que mostren el segell adjuntat a l\u2019acta, i les dedicades als sigil\u00b7l\u00f2grafs.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243;
